About

YSCP (York Settlement Community Players) is a thriving and highly regarded community theatre group, producing both modern and classical plays in theatre venues across York, including: York Theatre Royal Studio, John Cooper Studio Theatre @41 Monkgate and Friargate Theatre.

We also have 'The Direct Approach', a regular opportunity for aspiring directors to direct new plays of 30-60 minutes for 4-5 characters in a room in a pub, The Eagle and Child, High Petergate.

YSCP has existed since 1919 and always welcomes new members who wish to be a part of this exciting community group. In the 1950s, a local schoolgirl named Judi Dench became a member of YSCP and performed with the company before heading off to Drama School.

Being a member of YSCP also provides you with the opportunity to gain experience of other vital roles in a theatre company including: directing, stage management, backstage crew, promotion, fundraising and front of house.
